Space…the final frontier

I was probably 6 or 7 when I first saw Star Trek (the original show). I really don’t remember which episode was my first but the whole idea of being a space explorer in a cool space ship excited my imagination (I won’t lie, I loved the outfits too, who doesn’t like a cool outfit?}.  The thrill of exploring the depths of darkness, discovering new planets, solar systems, galaxies and the possibility of encountering new life forms sparked my life long love affair with all things sci-fi and aliens.

Part of my sci-fi/alien fascination comes from my curiosity and sense of adventure.  I love a good adventure.  So how does my love of Yoga Nidra fit into this sci-fi, adventurous side of me?  Remember that Powers of Ten movie they played in high school to show powers of ten? They focus in on a couple having a picnic in a park then start zooming out by powers of ten until you are in outer space and the earth is just a speck, then they start zooming in.  Zooming in to the people having a picnic, as you go further and further in, it starts to look exactly like outer space,  as above so below.  No joke, if you zoom in far enough to our molecular structure, it starts looking like outer space, how cool is that!

Yoga Nidra is all about exploring our inner space.  In my opinion, this is the final frontier, exploring our inner space, our subconscious and conscious minds, thoughts, emotions, energy, breath.  All those intangible things that make us, us, yet we are aliens to ourselves.  Our minds are incredibly powerful, yet many of us don’t know how to harness the power we possess.  Most of our problems are created by our own minds.  Just think what you could do if you could relieve stress, sleep problems, anxious and depressive thoughts by changing your mind?  Consistent practice of mindful modalities like Yoga Nidra have been shown to do just that, help us change our minds by exploring the space within us.

Curious about your inner workings?  Wanting to explore your internal landscape?
