Desert Musings
Ahh, the high mountain desert, one of my favorite places in the world. It’s vast, quiet solitude and stunningly stark beauty is difficult to describe in words. Going to the desert is a spiritual experience for me. I can’t explain how a girl raised in the wooded, wetlands of Michigan feels at home in the arid, red rock of Southern Utah but I do. My shoulders drop away from my ears, my breath deepens, my body feels grounded, I can sit for hours listening to the hawks and wind. A deep knowing that I have been here before, a visceral connection to the earth. Everything is immediately placed in perspective, surrounded by rock formations created over millenia, dwarfed by the vastness of sky and stars at night, I feel like the speck that I am in space and time. All my worries, stress, and thoughts drop away when I realize in the scheme of things, me and my worries are nothing but an insignificant blip in the space time continuum. Our modern world constricts our thoughts and perspective. The busyness of modern humans creates so much unnecessary stress through distractions that take us further away from our true selves. A shift in perspective can help alleviate so much of this stress created by distractions and busyness. While I can’t always go to the desert, I can create that same sense of broader perspective through my Yoga Nidra practice. As above, so below. The vastness of space exists within each of us. Shifting your perspective, creating space, letting go, connecting to that part of you that feels like home.
I invite you to join me for 7 Chakras Yoga Nidra on Zoom. Starting March 5th Sundays 4 pm MST.
