Forgive, Forget, Let Go

My goal was to put out weekly newsletters.  I did well for a while and then life happened.  Here I am months later, resurfacing, taking that much needed breath, reflecting on all that has transpired.  It has been a whirlwind.  I find myself lamenting the loss of momentum, my perceived lack of discipline, and then my inner critic takes hold, and well, it doesn’t go anywhere good.  Then I remembered this amazing technique my teacher Matthew Brownstein taught and thought I would share it with you.

At the the end of each day reflect on all that transpired, reviewing all of your deeds, for better or worse, go through your day.  Forgive what needs to be forgiven, whether it is yourself or someone else.  Once you have forgiven, forget about it.  There is no use lamenting what has happened, it is all in the past, once you have forgiven, forget it, what’s done is done.  Once you forget about it, let it go.  The human tendency is to perseverate, and continually rehash the past, the “I should haves” or “I could haves” need to be let go.  Sever the tie, forgive, forget, let go, stop holding on to the past.  Doing this practice allows you to step into your tomorrow with a clean slate.

Life is a journey with many side trips. The trick is to keep moving forward, pick up where you left off.  Sometimes you need to forge a new trail or retrace your steps if you get lost. To help lighten the load for your journey, forgive what needs to be forgiven, forget what needs to be forgotten, and let go of what needs to be let go.

Wishing you all happy travels, may your load be light, your trail be clear, and tomorrow a clean slate.
